October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. We will host and attend a number of events throughout the month, raising awareness and empowering and engaging communities to end domestic violence. We hope to see you out in the community!

10/2: Women’s March

The mission of Women’s March is to harness the political power of diverse women and their communities to create transformative social change. Women’s March is a women-led movement providing intersectional education on a diverse range of issues and creating entry points for new grassroots activists & organizers to engage in their local communities through trainings, outreach programs and events. Women’s March is committed to dismantling systems of oppression through nonviolent resistance and building inclusive structures guided by self-determination, dignity and respect.

10/3: Walk Against Domestic Violence

Join the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center as we walk together into our 40th year! We are thrilled to be back in-person for our 2021 walk. Our annual Walk Against Domestic Violence is one of our Center’s largest fundraisers of the year. Proceeds from this event allow us to continue to provide an extensive array of programs and services to 16 local communities.

10/5: Collaborative Responses to Domestic Violence in Rural Communities

The Institute for Coordinated Community Response and Conference on Crimes Against Women are holding a 2-day virtual conference. Our staff members Kelly Dunne and Heather Davies will present on Domestic Violence High Risk Teams in Rural Settings.

10/5, 10/7, 10/12, and 10/14: Domestic Violence Advocacy Training

Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center’s virtual training is a comprehensive series that develops the knowledge and skills necessary to assist victims and survivors of domestic violence. Each session builds off the last, and will include guest speakers, role playing and activities.

10/14: International Day of the Girl Vision Party

Join us to celebrate International Day of the Girl and raise funds for Girls Inc. of the Seacoast Area. Hear from Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center CEO about the importance of prevention work and from members of our Girls Inc. Advisory who will share their experiences.

10/15: A Conversation about Domestic Violence during COVID

As part of ongoing training for a number of judges in Harris County, Texas, several members of our training and technical assistance team will lead a session on Innovative Practices with Risk Assessment Tools.

10/18 – 10/22: #Every1KnowsSome1 Week of Action

This year, the National Network to End Domestic Violence’s focus for Domestic Violence Awareness Month is #Every1KnowsSome1. The campaign strives to highlight how common domestic violence is and that it is more than physical violence.
