Each month, we feature different girls from Girls Inc. of the Seacoast Area, a program of the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center and an affiliate of Girls Incorporated®, a national research, education and direct advocacy organization that inspires girls to be strong, smart, and bold. This month, we are featuring Olivia, also known as Liv, from our Girls Inc. Advisory group!

About Olivia:

Olivia is 17 years old and a junior at Triton High School in Newbury, Massachusetts. She has been a part of the Girls Inc. Advisory group for two years. Olivia is a cheerleader and loves to sing; she also is a cashier at Market Basket and loves working there. She is a big fan of Shawn Mendes!

Olivia is always willing to help where it is needed and loves being a part of the Advisory group. We asked her a few questions so you can get to know her better:

What is your favorite subject in school and why?

Math and Spanish! Math because I am good with numbers and Spanish because I am Portuguese, and they are kind of similar.

What has been your favorite Girls Inc. activity?

Girls Rock! It was so much fun, and maybe I can be a special guest after I graduate from high school!

What is one important thing you have learned from Girls Inc. Advisory group?

I learned more about being a leader and made new friends.

Are there any leaders in your own community or town that you look up to?

My cousin! She is a great person to talk to.

Who is one of your role models, and why?

Shawn Mendes because he is just perfect!

What do you hope you are doing 10 years from now?

I want to be a first or second grade teacher and maybe have my Master’s degree by then. Ohh! And possibly married by then!

What is the first thing you want to do when the pandemic is over?

I do not even know! There are so many things! I want to see all my friends and family and go back to the Azores!

How are you strong?

I am strong because I am a cheerleader.

How are you smart?

I make smart choices and I was on Honor Roll for all the quarters this school year!

How are you bold?

I am a great friend and always stand up for my friends!

The Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center believes that girls are stronger, more confident and less likely to become victims of domestic violence when they are empowered through education. We currently offer Girls Inc. of the Seacoast Area programs for girls in the following Massachusetts towns: Amesbury, Georgetown, Groveland, Ipswich, Merrimac, Newbury, Newburyport, Rowley, Salisbury and West Newbury.

Girls Inc. of the Seacoast area is an affiliate of Girls Incorporated®, a national research, education and direct advocacy organization that inspires girls to be strong, smart, and bold. The Girls Inc. national network includes research-based curricula delivered by trained professionals to equip girls to achieve academically; to lead healthy and physically active lives; to manage money; to navigate media messages; and to discover an interest in science, technology, engineering, art and math.
