Hi, my name is Claire. I’m a mother and a survivor of intimate partner violence. You don’t know me, but—as a supporter of the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center—you may have helped me when I needed it most.
My story is one of contradictions. At the very moment I was an intern at a domestic violence organization, seeing the questions “Does your partner monitor relationships? Control spending? Call you names?” — I realized the warning signs weren’t just for others. They were for me. I was both the advocate and the victim.
That’s the cruel reality of domestic violence. When you’re in the storm, you can’t see the shore disappearing behind you. By the time the truth settles in, you’ve already lost so much—your connections, your stability, your sense of self. I had moved in with him, cut off from my family, and I believed there was no way out. Even when I found the courage to leave, the abuse followed me into the courtroom.
That’s when Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center stepped in.
The Center didn’t just hand me a pamphlet or a temporary bed. It gave me a village. They stood beside me through court hearings, helped me find safe housing, offered counseling that gave my child and me a chance to heal, and provided advocates who reminded me, again and again, that I was not alone.
This is what your gift makes possible.
Every day, the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center confronts a devastating truth: intimate partner violence and abuse destroy lives, families, and futures. Each year, more than 1,200 survivors like me face impossible barriers—financial control, legal manipulation, and relentless fear. And yet, with the right services and community support, I am proof that healing is possible.
Today, I invite you to make healing possible for someone like me.
A gift of $1000 ensures that another survivor like me has the counseling, legal advocacy, housing support, and crisis intervention they desperately need. Your generosity means the next mother or daughter or sister won’t have to face their abuser alone in the courtroom. It means a child can sleep safely. It means hope is stronger than fear.
It will take $450,000 by December 31 to say yes to all the women, children, and their families who find their way to Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center this year.
We have an incredible opportunity to close our $450,000 year-end funding gap—and your gift can go twice as far!
Thanks to a generous $100,000 matching gift challenge, every dollar you give by November 30 will be doubled. But we must meet the match by that date to unlock the full $100,000.
Together, we will make sure no survivor has to walk this path alone.
With gratitude,
Claire
P.S. Every dollar you give—whether $100, $1,000, or more—helps rebuild lives torn apart by violence. Your gift ensures someone like me has not only shelter, but also safety, healing, and a chance at a new beginning.
